Getting to camp was an adventure in itself. After flying into Anchorage, Edward took another two-hour flight into the Alaskan bush before climbing aboard a boat for a ride down the rivers to get to his camps. Remarking on the journey, Edward mentioned: “I was surprised how far out we were going into the wilderness.”
Once they arrived in the Alaskan Bush, they were completely disconnected from the outside world. For the next ten days, there was no phone service, no emails, and no daily distractions. Camp life was simple. They cut their own firewood, spent long days exploring the rivers, and settled into a routine that felt a world away from everyday life.

Weather That Tested Everyone
Spring 2026 wasn’t an easy one. A long, difficult winter meant bears weren’t moving as they normally would, and the weather challenged everyone in camp. Rain and snow were common throughout this trip.
“The weather was the hardest part,” one hunter said, but despite the conditions, our experienced guides safely navigated miles of rivers and creeks every day. Knowing how to read changing water levels and safely travel remote waterways is just as important as knowing where trophy bears live.

When is the best time to hunt Coastal Brown Bears?
We have a substantial Coastal Bears population with the most liberal hunting season and bag limit anywhere in Alaska. Our bear hunting season is open for over nine months per year. As a result of this, it offers us four months (April, May, Aug & Sept.) of prime bear hunting opportunity. We hunt brown bears in the spring and fall every year with a limit of 2 bears per year. Boars range from 7-1/2′ to 10′ square, with skulls ranging from 20″ – 29″+ and are at their heaviest during the fall season.
