ABOUT THE KODIAK HUNTS

Please understand that the day you arrive and the day you depart are very often the most difficult work days for my staff and I.  Patience  a relaxed attitude always makes for a better hunt.

Traveling from The Lower 48 to Kodiak can be done in one day, arriving in Kodiak afternoon or Evening of that travel day. There are a number of good hotels in Kodiak proper where you can  spend the night. This offer the opportunity to see the harbor and the fishing fleet as as well as the town. The following morning you will need to go to the AlaskaDepartment  of Fish & Game offices and Pick up your Brown Bear or your Goat permit. It also offers an opportunity to pick up any last minute items in town…Either me or one of my crew will help you through this process.

Following this, you will be taken to the air charter company who will fly you to the hunting area. We will have the reservations made in advance, you may pay for the flight at this time by cash or credit card. Like the Alaska Peninsula, weather conditions on Kodiak are dynamic and variable which requires you to be prepared for flight delays. These potential delays are often due to logistical considerations and mostly important, your safety. Be patient and flexible and we will get the job

HUNTING AREA

The Hunt is conducted out of the lodge with use of spike camps if necessary for the Brown Bear. For the Deer, we usually stay at the lodge, unless you would like to experience a spike camp which will give you a greater chance at a bigger buck particularly if they are still higher in the mountain. You will have to deal with very unstable weather at this time of the year. We hunt before the rut which start in Mid-November. Usually the first snow bring the bucks down while they are chasing the Doe’s.

AIR CHARTER FEE

The Charter rate from Kodiak to the lodge is about $580 each way for 2-3 hunters on a Cessna 206 or $720 each way for 3-4 hunters on a De Havilland Beaver.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR TROPHY

We will prepare the Brown Bear Trophy for you, You have to seal the Skull before leaving the state of Alaska that is why we recommend Russel Knights Taxidermist for all Brown Bear Rug to be seal inAnchorage. He will also help you expedite it to  the Taxidermist of your choice. Knight’s Taxidermy is located at 7329 Arctic Blvd Anchorage AK

There are several good hotels in Kodiak, this offers the opportunity to visit the harbor and the fishing fleet as well as the town. Two very good stores specializing in fishing are Cy’s and Mac’s store downtown and tag Bells Flats.
